The Creative Writing program at Pasadena City College offers students an opportunity to harness their creativity, develop their unique writing voices, 和 explore their craft 和 processes of creative composing with practicing writers 和 artists. PCC offers an array of courses 和 supplemental activities 和 events that provide students with an appreciation of literature, an awareness of themselves as readers 和 writers in a global world, 和 an underst和ing of the relationship between language, intellect, identity, 和 scholarship.

The Creative Writing program at PCC exposes students to:

  • the history of creative writing
  • traditional genres 和 hybrid genres
  • a community of writers
  • the cultural impact that writers have on the world
  • opportunities in editing 和 publishing

Program highlights include the Visiting Writers series, the fall Writer-in-Residence program, the spring Poetry Day celebration, 和 the literary journal PCCINSCAPE, which has been in continuous publication since 1949.

Students leave the Creative Writing program with a deep appreciation for the power of creativity 和 an underst和ing of the writer’s role in society 和 of literature’s impact on today’s world. Students can apply this knowledge to careers as diverse as law, marketing, medicine, industrial design, business, 和 of course, publishing, teaching, 和 entertainment.

Program alumni have gone on to pursue BA, MA 和 MFA degrees in 英语 和 Creative Writing at UC Berkeley, UCLA, the University of New Orleans, UC Santa Cruz, CSULA 和更多的. Our alumni have served as editors for university literary journals like 河口杂志, 和 have volunteered with California Poets in the Schools写的女孩, 和 many have gone on to publish their own creative work with first rate literary journals 和 small presses.
